How This App Actually Got Made

Designed by Oliver, 7 — built by his dad

Have you ever stood in a bathroom at 7:45pm, running late on bedtime, bargaining with a child who won't open his mouth — you know the pleasure ;-)

Oliver wondered why brushing teeth was not like playing a video game 💡 — BrushQuest was born. He's 7 and he has opinions about everything — he decided which space heroes were cool and which were "lame, Dad." He tested every monster and ranked them. He said "there should be a surprise at the end". He knows what's fun!

Now brushing time sounds different in our house. Oliver runs to the bathroom. Theo, who's 3, screams "ME FIRST." They actually fight over the toothbrush. It's the best problem I've ever had.

Questions Parents Ask

Is it really free?
Yes. No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions. Built for Oliver and Theo and shared with other families.
Is it safe for my child?
The optional Google Sign-In is only for cloud saves (so you don't lose progress if you switch phones). There are no social features, no chat, no links to external sites. The app is designed to be COPPA-compliant.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The entire game works without an internet connection. Cloud save is the only feature that needs connectivity, and it's completely optional.
How long is a brushing session?
The default is 2 minutes (4 zones x 30 seconds each), following dentist recommendations. Parents can adjust the timer per zone in settings — 15, 20, or 30 seconds per zone.
Why isn't it on the Play Store?
We're working on it! In the meantime, you can download the APK directly. It's the same app — just tap Download, open the file, and tap Install. Takes about 30 seconds.

What age is it for?
Designed for children ages 5–12, but works great for younger kids too (Theo started at 3). Voice guidance means kids don't need to read. The space theme and monster battles keep older kids engaged.
Does it actually make them brush properly?
The app guides kids through all 4 quadrants of their mouth with a visual tooth diagram and voice prompts, building real oral health habits. An optional camera feature detects brushing motion and powers the attacks — so the more they brush, the better their hero fights!
What about iPhone?
Android only for now. We're working on an iOS version — want us to let you know?
Is this just more screen time?
2 minutes of guided brushing replaces a 10-minute argument. The app auto-exits after the session — no endless scrolling, no rabbit holes. It's a tool, not a time sink.
Will my kid get bored of it?
10 worlds, 70 monsters, 6 heroes, 6 weapons, daily rewards, and streak tracking add up to months of content. New monsters appear every session, so there's always something to discover.
